Neighborhood
The Bastide district of Libourne is a place where history and modernity meet harmoniously, offering travelers an authentic and convenient experience. Founded in 1270 by the English knight Sir Roger de Leyburn, the Bastide is located at the confluence of the Isle and the Dordogne, which favored its development as a prosperous port, notably thanks to the trade in wine, timber and salt. Today, this historic district seduces with its cobbled streets, its old buildings and its central square surrounded by arcades, where one of the most prestigious markets in the region has been held for more than 600 years. Visitors can stroll there and discover quality local products, reflecting the gastronomic richness of Libourne. La Bastide is also a dynamic center, offering a multitude of shops, restaurants and cafes, perfect for tasting local specialties or shopping. Its privileged geographical location allows easy access to the prestigious surrounding vineyards, such as Pomerol and Saint-Émilion, offering wine lovers unique tasting opportunities. For art and culture enthusiasts, the Maison Galerie Laurence Pustetto, located in the heart of the Bastide, offers regular exhibitions by local artists and artisans, enriching the neighborhood's cultural offerings. In short, the Bastide district of Libourne is an essential destination for travelers wishing to delve into history while enjoying modern amenities, all in a picturesque and welcoming setting.
